Don’t blame yourself for wanting an easy way out.

It’s not a shameful thing to consider the easy way out of a problem.  It’s human nature to find the path of least resistance and head that way. Who in their right mind wants to sign up for the hard way to do something?!

This desire we have for quick fixes is why billions of dollars are made on promising ads of overnight beauty products, miraculous diets that shed pounds fast, and a multitude of lofty ads making empty promises to get you to act now to get a better you. We have to recognize that we are a people who want what we want and we want it now! Remember Veruca Salt from the Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie? Let’s face it, we all can identify with Veruca sometimes!

“Easy” isn’t always best.

Oftentimes, our inner Veruca leads us astray. When we take this hardwired perspective of “I want it now!” into a situation that should take time, research, and advice, we can lose sight of some really important things we should have considered first and important questions that we should have asked.

Considering abortion usually means you’re not in an easy situation in your life right now.  It may feel like you just need a way out “now!” If we are functioning from this perspective and rely on an abortion provider for help, we can unknowingly be setting ourselves up for disaster. A much greater disaster than when we tried to bleach our hair at home or remove our falsies only to be left with no eyelashes at all! We all have a DIY disaster story or two!

Think about it. A “do-it-yourself” abortion. There are a lot of things with far fewer consequences and risks that we would never attempt as a DIY project. It has been said that the abortion pill is “as safe as taking Tylenol.” It’s so easy to take the bait, isn’t it? But women are catching on to the clever ads that claim to offer an easy way out.  Women today, like you, are not letting others do their thinking for them.  They are more empowered and equipped to make healthy choices for themselves than ever before.

Knowing the facts could save your life.

A woman seeking to terminate her pregnancy without seeking medical advice can place her life at great risk. Without an ultrasound, an intrauterine pregnancy cannot be confirmed. An ultrasound is the only way to diagnose an intrauterine pregnancy. A woman taking the abortion pill who may be further along in the pregnancy than she thinks or has an ectopic pregnancy is entering into a potentially life-threatening experience to take the abortion pill.

The reality is that chemical abortion can be dangerous, incredibly painful, and very traumatic. Many women report that they regret their abortions and wish they had slowed down and gathered more information before they had decided.

You feel rushed because you want to be free of the worry of an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy…that makes sense. Making decisions during a time of high stress and without all the facts is not ideal. It’s possible that no one but you knows your secret and you want to keep it that way. These are very common feelings and many women struggle as they consider who they can trust with their situation. Your trust is a precious gift and no one should take advantage of it. If you’ve shared your secret and you are being pressured to have an abortion, you can regain control of your life by taking a minute to pause and remember that this is your decision to make.

Take a big deep breath now and say to yourself, “This is my decision to make.”
